Tips
Taking care of your timber floors.
Now that you’ve had your timber floor sanded and polished, you’ll want to ensure its stays in pristine condition. Here are a few tips you can follow to ensure that your floors are well maintained.

01.
Dry time
The floor takes 24 hours to dry and must not be walked on during this period. No furniture must be placed on the newly finished floor for 72 hours. The floor should only have light use for the first 7 days to ensure the floor coatings cure properly.
02.
Rugs and mats
Rugs and mats are best not to be placed on the newly coated floor for at least 3-4 weeks after the final coat. This ensures premium curing time and your rug/mat is less likely to make any immediate impressions in the fresh coating.
03.
Cleaning
- Vacuum and sweep your floors. Excess foreign materials will scratch your floors.
- Do not use wax based detergent on floors, all of these materials can damage the surface finish over time and can affect adhesion for recoating – referred to as Delamination.
- Manufacturers of the solvent based products we use recommend using methylated spirits mixed with water to clean your timber floor which will maintain the sheen level for longer.
- Do not use excessive amounts of water as this can damage and warp the wood due to moisture absorption.
04.
Recommendations
- Use felt pads beneath furniture to reduce scratches and dents.
- Keep pets nail trimmed to minimised scratching.
- Wipe off any spillage on floor immediately to avoid moisture retention.
- Do not use high heels shoes on floorboards.
- Avoid direct sun as it will age and discolour (turning yellow) polished floors. However water based polyurethane will minimize this problem.
- Never drag furniture across flooring without proper protection.
